چکیده

As the readout time associated with a trigger of μBooNE is proportional to the drift time, it is important to know the drift velocity precisely. Likewise, the reconstruction of track position from the drift time of ionization electrons depends on knowledge of the drift velocity. The nominal drift field in μBooNE is E = 500V/cm, and the peak electric field at the surface of the collection wires is about VV Y /a ln(b/a) = 400/0.015 ln(0.3/0.015) ≈ 9 kV/cm. Electron drift velocities in liquid argon for have reported in [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7]. A comparison of many of these measurements was made by Walkowiak [6], as shown in fig. 1. Kalinin et al., and also Walkowiak, fit the measurements to a function that parameterizes the electron drift velocity v with respect to the electric field E and temperature T ,

Commissioning and Calibration of the ALICE TPC

ALICE (A Large Ion Collider Experiment) is the dedicated heavy ion experiment at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. The main tracking device of ALICE is a large volume TPC. The milestones of the TPC commissioning as well as the current status of the detector calibration are presented. The obtained resolutions in transverse momentum, position as well as in specific energy loss (dE/dx) are presen...

First Tests of a Micromegas TPC in a Magnetic Field

Since the summer of 2003, a large Micromegas TPC prototype (1000 channels, 50 cm drift, 50 cm diameter) has been operated in a 2T superconducting magnet at Saclay. A description of this apparatus and first results from cosmic ray tests are presented. Additionnal measurements using simpler detectors with a laser source, an X-ray gun and radio-active sources are discussed. Drift velocity and gain...

Online Drift Velocity Calibration with the Laser System of the ALICE-TPC

The online drift velocity calibration method provides calibration parameters required at the very beginning of the offline reconstruction process in order to determine the z position of the particle tracks with a sufficient accuracy before the combined track finding [2]. It uses the TPC Laser System which generates 336 straight laser tracks, similar to ionizing particle tracks, at known positio...

Measurement of Carbon Disulfide Anion Diffusion in a TPC

The Directional Recoil Identification From Tracks (DRIFT) detector has recently been proposed [?] to search for dark matter. This detector is unique in that it drifts negative ions, instead of electrons, in a time projection chamber (TPC). A detailed description of the operation, motivation, and other uses of a negative ion TPC (NITPC) can be found in [?]. Briefly, an electronegative component ...

Experience with the Goofie during the TPC commissioning

The ALICE TPC is a detector with a total volume of 88 m filled with a ternary gas mixture of Ne-CO2-N2 [9010-5]. To achieve its position and energy resolution requirements it is necessary to control small fluctuations in the gas composition as well as drift velocity variations [1]. A modified drift velocity monitor known as Goofie is measuring the drift velocity and also the gain. The drift vel...
